Thank you for visiting!
Following God's promise to care for you, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Health Ministry was established as a means, through Christ, for God to come to you and give to you His love, healing, and mercy. As you experience the joys and trials on life’s journey, be assured that God is ever present with you.
God has created us body, mind, and spirit and cares for us with the same means.
Spirit
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27 “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7 In God’s image we were created. God breathed his spirit of life into man. Spirit is synonymous with wind or breath. God also gave us a counselor the Holy Spirit. "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of turth." John 14:16-17.
Body
However, when Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God and eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, man became seperated from God. God, in his abundant love for mankind also promised a way back to Him. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eterna life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condem the world but to save the world through him." John 3:16-17."
God also cares for you by providing everything you need for your body. "Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground- trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.” Genesis 2:8-9 “So, do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” Matthew 6:31-34
Jesus gave his body as a sacrifice to forgive your sins. He also gives us his body in Holy Communion to remember him. This is a rememberance and proclamation of the redemption of believers from the bondage of sin through Christ's atoning work on the cross, available through this sacrament. "This is my body given for you; do this in rememberance of me. This cup is the new covenent in my blood, which is poured out for you." Luke 22: 19-20.
Mind
God knew, because sin had entered His world, that you would have troubles along your life’s journey. He knew you would have such feelings as anger, anxiety, depression and grief. He also created a way for you to be encouraged, heal and find hope during those times. Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go there and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to me with me that you also may be where I am. I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:1-3, 6.
Jesus also gave you another powerful means of healing. He gave you the gift of forgiveness. Many times you will feel in prison because of your anger towards another person. When, through Christ, you have the key to get out of that prison. You see it is a lack of forgiveness that keeps you there. “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” Matthew 18:21-22.
This is all possible because of yet another way our heavenly Father cares for you. He has given His children a Counselor or “Personal Spiritual Trainer.” Jesus said, “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:26-27.
"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 1: 7b
"We know that we live in him and he is us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him." 1 John 4:13-16
